Vicuña
Vicuña Corp. is a joint arrangement formed between Lundin Mining and BHP to advance the Filo del Sol project and the Josemaria project located along the Chile-Argentina border.
Lundin Mining and BHP each hold a 50% interest respectively.
Vicuña District:
The Vicuña District is a geologically prospective region located along the Chile-Argentina border between the Maricunga belt to the north and the El Indio belt to the south. It comprises four known copper-gold deposits.
Filo del Sol and Josemaria are located approximately 10 km apart, work is ongoing to outline an integrated project incorporating the two deposits.
- Project Copper, Gold and Silver
- Ownership 50% Lundin Mining
- Location San Juan, Argentina
Josemaria:
Josemaria is a large-scale copper-gold porphyry system located within the Vicuña district. The deposit area is approximately 1,500 m north-south by 1,000 m east-west and 600 to 700 m vertically from surface. Josemaria is located in the San Juan Province of Argentina, approximately 10 km east of the Chile-Argentina border. The project topography is mountainous with broad, flatbottomed valleys and moderately steep slopes ranging in elevation.
The Josemaria project is to be developed as a large-scale open pit mining operation and will employ conventional truck and shovel open-pit mining with conventional primary crushing, grinding and flotation.
Filo del Sol:
Filo del Sol is a high-sulphidation epithermal copper-gold-silver deposit associated with a large porphyry copper-gold system. The Filo del Sol project encompasses a very large alteration zone within the prolific Vicuña District. Both high-sulphidation epithermal gold-silver-copper and porphyry copper-gold mineralization have been discovered and both styles of mineralization are compelling exploration targets.
The upper portion of Filo del Sol deposit is oxidized, and a Pre-Feasibility study on this mineralization was completed with an effective date of February 28, 2023. No economic study has been completed on the larger sulphide copper-gold mineralization below the oxidized cap.
